Wellington, New Zealand

It had been a while since I had cried tears of joy. Though, I must admit, they were mingled with tears of relief. Forty minutes into the hour long ceremony, they still hadn’t called Adrian’s name and we had seen our top 10 posts dwindle down to two. The two left being Vienna, Austria (to utilize Adrian’s language skills/ requirements early) and Wellington, New Zealand-one of the only Public Diplomacy jobs on the list. We were not holding out hope for either as they were probably on everyone’s top ten. But, the MC held up the little blue flag with the union jack in the corner and called out Adrian’s name. I cried, the boys fist bumped and hooted and Adrian looked at me like the cat that ate the canary. How on earth did we get New Zealand?
Hey, we’re not ones to look a gift horse in the mouth so –Maoris and Kiwis here we come. Happily.

  1. hi there, I'm not sure how I missed your blog until now! Congrats on your post- how amazingly exciting. I'm a candidate, waiting to get on the Con register. And a Latin America fan, so I LOVED your pics of your CR home- can I ask why/how long you lived there?
    so when do you leave?
ps I'm going to link to you

  3. Bfiles,
We never lived in CR, it was just a vacation home for us, though we would have loved to spend more time there. We are super excited to be going to NZ but that means we probably won't get to CR for at least 2 years :(
This life is going to be perfect for us and our 2 boys. I hope you are as excited. We too are fans of Latin America but find ourselves wanting to go everywhere.
Good luck on the Con Gen register. I hope it moves quickly for you.
    All the best,
    Amy

  4. Hi Amy, so do you still own your home in CR? It is spectacular. I find myself coming back and looking at it every so often! The green lushness, the patio view, the kitchen. I can't wait to hear about NZ. What an amazing opportunity. Good luck packing out.

  5. Bfiles,
Are you on the register yet? I hope so. Yes, we still have the place in CR though it is on the market. We had an offer on it last week but turned it down. I guess we're not quite ready to let it go. We love that house. It is perfect (for us). It lacks airconditioning and only has one bathroom but hey, it never gets too hot in the mountains and the boys can pee outside !
    Good luck with congen.
    Amy
